this body of work takes as its departure point a series of recorded films which document the course of one year when my grandmother and I practiced chinese calligraphy together. as we write, she begins to speak, sharing her past with me in vivid fragments, meandering, forgetting and recalling. we speak ​(as we have only ever spoken with one another) in cantonese.

through the act of (re-)writing, 宣 is an ongoing inquiry into memory, grief and the state of being at a loss for words.
